Artist's Statement

As a young child, unable to understand Latin, I spent church services gazing at the beautiful stained glass and the painted mural behind the altar of Holy Cross Church, Onamia, Minnesota.

While the bells rang and the incense wafted to the ceiling, I listened to my father singing from the choir loft and fell in love with the light and color surrounding me.

My artistic focus is on transformation through art and poetry. Textile work includes quilted mosaics, "stained glass," mandala art, and the labyrinth. Use of discarded American textiles is often used (seen or unseen) in most of my textile work, including bags and purses.

Social justice issues/world events inspire much of my poetry/writing. I believe that art can bring hope to individuals and communities.
